Chupacabra

DENTON – This Belgian-style strong blonde ale (ABV 12.9%) from Denton County Brewing was originally brewed as collaboration with the now-closed Audacity Brew House. Been sitting in tequila barrels ever since (which now is a couple of years).*

Bright yellow, strong nose of fruity, pungent alcohol. Flavor is a pale malt base with kick of tequila, semi-dry, citrusy. Tequila and barrel-wood flavors do come through but, surprisingly, not too boozy for the strength. Takes on a mimosa nature toward the end of the glass.

* Initially believed aged 18-month to 2 years, as dated from closure of Audacity, but staff confirms it was aging years before they closed. Possibly 4-5 years in the barrel.
